Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your initial interest in volunteering with us! Since there are many levels of involvement, and we want you to have an experience worth your time, carefully consider what interests you and your comfort level in working with our participants. Respect for the privacy and safety of our participants is important, so opportunities may not be exactly what you might think. Please view the ways to get involved below. We look forward to you joining our volunteer team to fight homelessness.

Year-Round Opportunities

Organize an Item Drive

If you have the ability and resources to organize a donation drive, we are always in need of specific items. Contact Gwen Martin at 469.250.1952 or info@hccdallas.org to discuss how you can help and receive a list of our current needs.

Workshops or Life Skills

In addition to housing, HCC provides support services to empower participants to never have to experience homelessness again. If you would like to assist with, or have the ability to teach helpful skills like “preparing quick and easy meals”, “coupon shopping and budgeting”, “healthy eating on a budget”, etc., please contact Gwen Martin at 469.250.1952 or info@hccdallas.org. Volunteer training and a background check required!

Phone Receptionist

Do you have extra time and can communicate information clearly and concisely? Volunteers are needed to simply answer phone lines at our main office. Volunteer training would prepare you to share information and refer callers to community resources. Contact Gwen Martin at 469.250.1952 or info@hccdallas.org if this interests you. Volunteer training and a background check required!

Legal Clinic Aid

You can imagine the amount of paperwork necessary to help tenants fight for their rights, and deal with legal issues. Occasionally, volunteers are needed to help with administrative tasks and or hospitality for our legal clinics. The goal of the session is to prevent homelessness through offering free legal advice and direction. Clinics are held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at our HCC main office. To volunteer as an aid, please contact Doris Vinson at 214.828.4244 or info@hccdallas.org.

Legal Clinic Attorney

If you are an attorney, or a law school professor, please consider volunteering with our legal clinic. The goal of the session is to prevent homelessness through offering free legal advice and direction. Clinics are held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at our HCC main office. Even if you do not practice tenant/landlord disputes or real estate law, we would appreciate your help. Housing Crisis Center partners with Legal Aid of North West Texas (LANWT) and the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP). Please contact Doris Vinson at 214.828.4244 or info@hccdallas.org. Our legal program has been cited by the State Bar of Texas for outstanding service.

Special Opportunities

P.I.T. Count (Point In Time Count) Volunteer

Once a year, we join communities across the country to count our homeless friends. The Count, which is a requirement under Federal Law, helps communities understand the extent of homelessness, the changing trends, and the measure of their success in making homelessness rare, brief and nonrecurring. While this opportunity is not for everyone, it takes thousands of volunteers to make it happen. To join our teams for the count, contact Lisa Stephenson at 469.458.0793 or info@hccdallas.org for more information.

Community Service Hours

By the nature of what we do, opportunities for student or adult volunteers seeking community service hours are limited. However, volunteers are needed for various activities within our organization throughout the year. Occasionally, volunteers are also needed to work more directly with our participants through various services that we provide within our programs. Contact Gwen Martin at 469.250.1952 or info@hccdallas.org if this interests you or you have questions. Volunteer training and a background check may be required!
